GIS4043 - Module 6 - Georeferencing Land Near a Bald Eagle Nest

Image
In this module, it was tasked to create a multi-ring buffer around a Bald Eagles so development of land would not interfere with the nest. A georeferenced area of the University of West Florida was used to mark buildings and roads near the nest. The first blue ring around the eagles nest represent a 330-foot conservation easement to prevent any destruction. The second ring is a 660-foot protected area around the nest in the case of certain types of development like trails, power lines, and roads, that was mandated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

GIS4043 - Module 6 - Georeferencing a 3D Scene

Image
In this module, it was tasked to create a 3D map scene of the University of West Florida in ArcGIS Pro by georeferencing images over feature classes. Notably, when georeferencing, a Root Mean Square (RMS) Error, as indicted on the map, shows the accuracy of the 3D buildings to the actual placement of them in the underlying image.

GIS4035 - Module 5 - Supervised Classification

Image
For this lab, it was asked to create a map of supervised classification of land use in Germantown, Maryland. This was completed by creating spectral signatures specifying what type of land class an area was at given coordinates points. The main map and inset were created in ERDAS Imagine using the Thematic Recoding tool. These were then exported to ArcGIS Pro to create the final map.

GIS4043 - Module 5 - Geocoding Manatee County Schools

In this lab, an address locator was created for schools in Manatee County, FL. This was done by taking locations and addresses on the Florida Department of Education School website, and cleaning it up in Excel to be sent to ArcGIS Pro as a table. It was placed within a TIGER/Line shapefile of the 2020 Manatee County border, downloaded from the US Census Bureau Geography Program. This shapefile and Excel Table were used to delineate the streets of Manatee County. A geoprocessing tool to create (Address) Locators was used, which plotted point shape features showing the name and address of the schools within Manatee County. The map and addresses were uploaded as a Web Map into ArcGIS Online for anyone to view. Manatee County Schools Web Map Link

GIS4035 - Module 4 - Spatial Enhancement, Multispectral Data and Band Indices

Image
For this lab, four types of skills were learned to create this map. The first was examining pixel value histograms for shapes and patterns in the data. This allowed for understanding how many bright and dark features were within an image. The second was viewing an image as grayscale to identify darker and lighter shapes and areas was. This was used to find extremely dark or light features, but could also be used to identify features that had a transition of dark and light, called edge detecting. The third was adjusting multispectral bands to make specific features stand out from one another. By adjusting the red, green, and blue bands of an image, certain features that would not be able to be seen in a True Color or grayscale, would appear. Lastly, the fourth was implementing an inquire cursor to find and identify the specific brightness of features. The inquire cursor in ERDAS Imagine can identify which layer of an image is the brightest or darkest, and can also be used to identify th...
